6 days to go

I managed to fit a treadmill session in today. 5km at about 80% and feel all the better for it. I'm trying to follow a decent diet this week in the run up to the race but I think work will conspire to prevent this from happening. All the same I'm eating plenty of carbs in preparation.

Hi Alastair, I am really sorry I havent posted to you sooner. It sounds like you are set for a good run. Try not to do much this week, as a good taper week is really important. You want to be bouncing off the walls come race day. Keeping yourself hydrated is very important. I think this should start in the days leading up to the race. I struggle to drink when I run, and have found that if I am properly hydrated before the start, I dont need too much on the way round.
The best bit of advise I given prior to my first 1/2 was, if after a mile you feel comfortable.....your going too fast!
If their is anything I can help with, let me know. I will check your blog regularly up untill your race. Otherwise have a fantastic day and I hope you get through the 1.50 barrier.

You're doing everything right Alistair - a fastish, but not too long run on the Monday - enough to keep the legs ticking over but not enough to get your legs too tired. Rest up these next few days and carb up!

Looking forward to catching up with you over the weekend!
